Organisations must separate their waste into the following categories before collection:

  • Dry recyclable materials: This includes plastic, metal, glass, paper, and cardboard.
  • Food waste: Must be collected separately.
  • Non-recyclable waste: Also known as residual waste, should be kept separate from recyclables.

This separation applies to all waste produced by employees, customers, and visitors on the premises.

At the Dorothy Parkes Centre, we’re proud to support this important initiative and will be stepping up our own recycling efforts in the months ahead with new recycling stations around the centre as follows:

Paper and cardboard - Cardboard, Paper, Newspapers, Card

Plastics and small metals and cartons - Plastic Bottles, Cans & Tins, Plastic & Metal Lids, Takeaway Coffee Cups (plastic lined), Pots, Tubs and Trays made of PET

Glass - Glass Bottles, Glass Jars, Empty Milk Bottles, Any Empty Glass Packaging Products

Food - Food, Peelings, Leftovers, Tea Bags

General waste - Bagged General Waste, Polystyrene, Kitchen Roll & Paper Towels, Tissues, Crisp Packets, Sweet & Biscuit Wrappers, Plastic Film incl. Cling Film, Sticky Notes & Stickers

We’ll also be working with Sandwell Council and their Waste Consultants to build a more eco-conscious community together.

Whether you’re visiting the Centre for a class, a cuppa, or a community meeting, we encourage everyone to do their bit and make use of the recycling stations.

Together, we can make a real difference — one recycled item at a time.

By adhering to these regulations, businesses contribute to a more sustainable environment and help the UK achieve its target of recycling 65% of waste by 2035.
