Dorothy Parkes Community Centre is pleased to announce an upcoming Community Litter Pick and Greenpeace Eco Event, taking place on Saturday 16th May 2026. Delivered in partnership with Greenpeace Birmingham, the event is designed to bring local residents together for a morning of environmental action, learning, and community connection.

This free event reflects the Centre’s ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable initiatives and encouraging community-led action to care for local spaces.

A Morning of Action and Learning

The day will begin at 10:00am, with participants gathering at the Dorothy Parkes Centre before heading out for a coordinated litter pick. Volunteers will help clean the grounds of Smethwick Old Church and surrounding roads, contributing directly to improving the local environment.

Following the litter pick, attendees will return to the Centre for a welcome presentation from Greenpeace at 11:30am. This session will offer insight into current environmental challenges, along with practical steps individuals and communities can take to reduce their impact.

The event will conclude with a relaxed tea and homemade cakes session at 12:00pm, providing an opportunity for informal discussion, information sharing, and community networking.

Supporting Community and Sustainability

Events such as this play an important role in fostering a sense of shared responsibility for local spaces. By combining hands-on activity with accessible learning, the session aims to empower residents with both the motivation and knowledge to make environmentally conscious choices.

The event is open to all members of the community, including families, individuals, and first-time volunteers. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to get involved and contribute.
