Our recent Green Peace Community Litter Pick was a fantastic success, bringing together members of the local community, Greenpeace representatives, and volunteers from Smethwick Old Church for a positive day of action and community spirit.

Over 20 people attended the event, working side by side to clear litter from the church grounds and surrounding roads. Thanks to the support of Sandwell Litter Watch, who kindly loaned additional litter-picking equipment, volunteers were able to collect a large amount of rubbish and help leave the local area looking clean, tidy, and welcoming for everyone.

The event was about much more than just picking up litter. It was an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together, meet new people, and take pride in improving the local environment.

After the litter pick, everyone returned to the community centre to enjoy homemade cakes kindly made by volunteer Chris Tanner, along with plenty of tea and refreshments. Greenpeace representatives then shared an informative presentation about environmental issues and hosted a fun quiz that tested everyone’s knowledge while encouraging discussion and learning.

The morning was a wonderful example of what can be achieved when communities work together. By sharing knowledge, skills, support, and enthusiasm, everyone involved helped make a real difference to the local area.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers, organisers, and partners who took part and helped make the event such a success. We look forward to hosting more community activities like this in the future.
