People with Parkinson’s, their loved ones, and carers are invited to a new Parkinson’s cafe in Smethwick, Sandwell. The cafe, launched by Parkinson’s UK and The Dorothy Parkes Centre, is a chance to chat with others living locally affected by Parkinson’s, meet new people, and find out more about Parkinson’s support and activities.

The Smethwick Parkinson’s Cafe launches Monday 1 June 2026, 10am-11:30am.  The cafe will then be held on the first Monday of each month, 10am-11:30am. The cafe is free to attend, but contributions towards refreshments are welcome. No booking required.

Emily Skeet, Area Development Manager - Midlands, Parkinson’s UK, said:

"We’ve been gathering ideas from local people affected by Parkinson’s on what local support and activities would be valuable to them, and I’m delighted to launch this new regular Parkinson’s cafe as a result. Thanks to everyone who joined us at our World Parkinson’s Day event at the Dorothy Parkes Centre last month and shared their feedback.

If you or a loved one are affected by Parkinson’s and would like a friendly cuppa and a chat with people in similar situations, I’d love to see you there. No booking required - just turn up!”

Christina Murray, Projects Manager said:

"The Dorothy Parkes Centre is proud to offer a welcoming space each month for people living with Parkinson’s to come together in a supportive environment where individuals can connect, share experiences, and enjoy friendship, conversation, and mutual understanding."

Parkinson's is a complex brain condition that gets worse over time. It has more than 40 symptoms, from tremor and pain to anxiety, and there is no cure. Someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the UK every 20 minutes and by 2050, the number of people living with the condition worldwide will double to 25 million.

Parkinson’s UK is the leading European funder of Parkinson’s research and here to support every Parkinson’s journey, every step of the way. For information and support, visit parkinsons.org.uk or call the charity’s free, confidential helpline on 0808 800 0303.
