This exciting new project offers free surplus food to anyone in need, thanks to generous funding from Hubbub and Heart of England Community Foundation.

Dottie's Community Fridge aims to reduce food waste while supporting our local community. The fridge will be stocked with surplus food, available free of charge on Tuesdays and Fridays. It's our hope that this initiative will make a real difference, providing people with access to healthy, nutritious food while reducing unnecessary waste.

Special Launch Event

We were honoured to have some very special guests with us at the opening ceremony on Friday 17th January 2025:

  • Cllr Steve Melia, Deputy Mayor of Sandwell, who officially launched the project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
  • Dan Lee, winner of MasterChef: The Professionals 2021, who shared his support and passion for community food initiatives.
  • Ann Gallagher from Incredible Surplus, whose expertise in food redistribution has played a key role in bringing this fridge to life.

The launch was a fantastic celebration of community spirit, and we are so grateful to everyone who made this vision a reality.

How Dottie's Community Fridge Works

Dottie's Community Fridge is here to serve everyone. Whether you're facing financial challenges, looking to reduce your own food waste, or simply want to access surplus food in a convenient location, the fridge is available to all. It operates on a no-questions-asked basis, ensuring that anyone who needs food can easily access it without judgment.

Simply visit the Dorothy Parkes Centre on Tuesdays and Fridays between 10am and 2pm to see what’s available. Whether it’s fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, or packaged items, there will always be a variety of options for you to take home.

Get Involved

If you have surplus food you’d like to donate, or if you want to help support this initiative in any way, we’d love to hear from you. This project relies on the generosity of individuals, businesses, and organisations within the community.

Together, we can ensure that no good food goes to waste, and that everyone has access to the nourishment they need.

Thank You

A huge thank you to Hubbub and the Heart of England Community Foundation for their generous funding, and to everyone who contributed to making Dottie's Community Fridge a reality. We look forward to seeing this project grow and benefit our community for years to come.

Let’s work together to fight food waste, support each other, and build a stronger, more connected community.
