Friends of Dorothy is an arts‑based project that aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing of the Sandwell LGBTQ+ community by creating opportunities for social connection, creative expression and peer support. The project offers a safe, inclusive space where individuals can build confidence, share experiences, and develop a stronger sense of belonging.

Sessions take place on the third Monday of each month, from 5.00pm to 7.00pm, at the Dorothy Parkes Centre. These sessions are relaxed, welcoming, and designed to foster creativity, self‑expression and meaningful connection in a supportive setting.

Participants are welcome to work on individual projects or in small groups, and all abilities are welcome. At various points throughout the year, sessions may follow a theme, with the session lead providing additional art materials to create seasonal or themed pieces.

To ensure accessibility and inclusivity, all art materials and refreshments are provided by the Dorothy Parkes Centre, and all sessions are free of charge.

Friends of Dorothy welcomes members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies. The Dorothy Parkes Centre is a safe, inclusive and vibrant space where everyone is encouraged to feel seen, heard and valued.

Whether you are joining to connect with others, learn something new, share your experiences, or simply find a sense of belonging, Friends of Dorothy is a place where you are celebrated for who you are. The project is built on the foundations of respect, support and community, and we look forward to creating a space where all identities and expressions are embraced.
